The engineer tends to work more in theoretical terms and is more concerned with design. The engineering technologist tends to work more in practical terms and is more concerned with putting the design into practice. Vocational training in Computer Engineering will prepare you to help engineers design and build computer systems. You will learn to install and maintain equipment as well as learn to write and test software programs. Courses offered will teach you how to solve problems by experimenting, gathering data, and testing theories. You will learn a few programming languages and how data is communicated over networks as well as how popular kinds of software store and process data. Vocational training programs focusing specifically on computer engineering will focus more on the logical process that goes on before any code is written, and will teach you skills to use in research and development. You can earn vocational training in a program of this kind in only two or three years which will qualify you to work as a technician within an engineering team. You will also be prepared to go on to study at a four-year college and earn a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering Technology if you so choose.
