Penn State Schuylkill in Schuylkill Haven, about five miles from Pottsville, is a branch of Penn State University that offers five bachelor's degree programs: administration of justice, business, information sciences and technology, psychology, and an RN to BS for registered nurses. The 70-acre branch has an enrollment over 1,000 and offers 30-plus student organizations.

The Schuylkill School of Nursing in Pottsville offers a three-year diploma program that includes two years of nursing courses and well as a final year of pre-req coursework useful for admittance to a university.
