Pursuing an education in North Augusta, S.C.

Southwestern Wesleyan University is just one of the schools located in North Augusta. This Christian-based school founded in 1906 offers degrees in 42 areas of study. Curriculum is available from the associate level to graduate level degree with master's degrees at the upper level offered in education and management as well as through an MBA. To top it off, more than 70 percent of full-time faculty at the school has doctoral degrees. Other higher education choices are limited in North Augusta, but you can also find educational opportunities to train there through vocational programs offered in cosmetology and hair design.

About 30 miles away in Aiken, S.C., is the University of South Carolina at Aiken, or USCA. More than 3,000 undergraduates attend this school and can pursue subject matters in business, education, nursing and more. In fact, there are some 35 different majors available at the school. For 12 years running, the school has come in on the list of top three public baccalaureate schools in the south, according to U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" report.

Tuition in South Carolina varies depending on a the type of school and length of program. However, according to The College Board, the average cost of tuition and fees at a two-year public school in the state were $3,731 for 2011-12. This increased to $10,300 for a public four-year college and $21,951 for a four-year private school.
