Nebraska's motto is not an official Motto, as such, but is accepted as an element of its official seal. The Nebraska state motto "Equality Before the Law" appears on the state flag and the great seal. The Nebraska Constitution provides for a state seal that is to be kept by the secretary of state and used by him or her officially as directed by law.

The Nebraska motto encapsulates the belief that every individual has an irrefutable right to freedom and equality irrelevant of status and religious convictions.

The Nebraska state motto 'Equality Before the Law' was adopted in 1867 and appears on both the state flag and the state seal.
